Located on the North Shore of Nova Scotia, Pictou County is a welcoming coastal community that offers amenities and opportunities that you typically find in much larger cities in Canada.

The Work Different, Live Different Retreat: Pictou County, Nova Scotia, is a unique talent attraction program that introduces skilled workers and entrepreneurs from across Canada, and around the world, to the wide range of career opportunities in the region. Hosted by The Maker's Collective Inc., in collaboration with Pictou County Partnership, this 7 day Talent Attraction program puts participants in a position to build meaningful in person connections with a range of local stakeholders. Moreover, this first-of-its' kind retreat provides a valuable opportunity to attend a range of workshops to stimulate personal and professional growth.

The retreat also gives you the chance to visit the region to assess its' fit with your lifestyle, and it allows you to connect with a community of likeminded individuals who are also interested in working and living in Nova Scotia. 

Who is the Retreat for?

International students who recently graduated and are looking for work opportunities.

Non-Canadian Residents looking for opportunities to immigrate to Nova Scotia.

Talented Canadians looking for an opportunity to work + live in Nova Scotia.

Canadian Digital Nomads looking for a work+travel experience in Nova Scotia.

With only 25 spots available in each of the summer 2024 retreats, we encourage you to join the waitlist so you can be the first to apply when we open applications later in March. We will likely run two retreats, one in late June, and the other in early September. When you join the waitlist, you'll be sent a survey where you indicate your preferred dates.

Program Overview.

Local Opportunities

You'll learn firsthand about what it is like to work and live in Pictou County. During your 7 day stay, you'll learn about the employment opportunities that exist in the region.

There are a wide range of career opportunities in Pictou County, with a specific need for folks with skills in: healthcare, pharmacy, the skilled trades, various technology and business skillsets, and entrepreneurship. 

Workshops +  Coaching 

Learn to leave a lasting impression on employers and/or build meaningful relationships with new clients for your business by attending a range of educational workshops.

And, if you are not a permanent resident of Canada, you'll be able to attend workshops to learn about entry requirements and pathways to residency in Canada. 

 

Community Events

The province of Nova Scotia has so much to offer! As part of the retreat community, you'll have the opportunity to explore the best parts of Pictou County, including Lobster boat runs along the islands North Shore. 

Plus, you'll be able to explore other parts of the province through one or may day trips - including adventuring to Halifax, and exploring Cape Breton. 

Why Pictou County, Nova Scotia?

At the The Maker's Collective, we practice what we preach by embracing work mobility. We are based out of Kitchener, Ontario, but blend work and travel across Canada throughout the year. In 2023, we saw the opportunities that exist in Nova Scotia firsthand.  As Partners with Start-Up Canada, we travelled to Nova Scotia in May 2023, and the connections we made had on our business was tremendous.
